TokyoDev Talks Vol. 11: From Scrum to LeSS / Cafe Side Project
イベント説明
Join us for TokyoDev Talks, where we have presentations that cut across the stack from engineers working at some of the most interesting tech companies in Japan.
Note that attendance for this event is limited to software developers, those aspiring to become one, or working in an adjacent position (e.g. Product Managers, UI/UX Designers, Security Engineers, QA Engineers, etc). If you're unsure whether you're qualified to attend, please get in touch.
This event is being held at Tokyo Innovation Base (TiB). When attending it, you'll also need to complete the free registration process with TiB if you have not already done so. You are strongly encouraged to complete this in advance, as otherwise you'll need to complete it on site before you're allowed into the venue.
Agenda
18:30 〜 19:00 Doors open
Enjoy talking with the other participants before the presentations begin. Drinks and a light meal will be provided by TokyoDev.
19:00 〜 19:05 Opening - Paul McMahon
We'll kick things off by welcoming everyone and giving a short introduction of the event.
19:05 〜 19:30 From Scrum to LeSS. What Actually Changes When You Scale — Rogerio Taques
When I joined WOVN, we used to play Scrum by the book! It worked until we realized that with multiple teams working in different parts of the same product, it was easy to focus on the "wrong" things that were not actually creating the value our customers needed! To overcome this challenge, we turned to Large Scale Scrum (LeSS). In this presentation, I will talk about our experience changing development methodologies, and the common pitfalls of scaling Agile, especially when refocusing the organization on a single product.
Rogerio Taques (Software Engineer at Wovn Technologies)
Rogerio is a seasoned Full-Stack Engineer and former Product Owner with a deep background in Information Systems. He bridges the gap between complex technical stacks and a customer-centric, product-first mindset.
19:40 〜 20:05 My Cafe Side Project — Chris Salzberg
A lot of developers dream of opening their own cafe, but most of them never will. Taking the leap from the virtual world of bits to the physical world of bites carries serious risks. Not to mention that deep down, many dreaming coders worry they might not enjoy the new lifestyle they end up with.
With all these odds stacked against it, who would ever actually do this kind of thing?
Well, I did! Last year, I opened my own cafe named "Solenoid" in the city of Hakodate. I run Solenoid as a side project a couple days a week; on other days I use it as my office for my job as a software engineer.
In this talk, I'll walk you through all the things I had to do to get Solenoid up and running. This includes: buying and renovating a property, getting licenses, dealing with stakeholders, buying inventory, and doing taxes, among other things. I'll also describe the emotional roller-coaster ride that doing this kind of thing involves, and what it feels like to actually come out the other side.
Chris Salzberg (Staff Developer at Shopify)
Chris is a Canadian software engineer with more than twenty years experience working and living in Japan. He is currently a Staff Developer on the Payments Team at Shopify.
20:05 〜 20:45 Open Networking
