The Authors and Speakers:
Rupert Sutton is author of Export & Expand: Turn Crisis to Opportunity, published in English and Japanese.
He is also founder and Managing Partner of Weben Asia, a Management Consultancy. Previously he was a senior executive with Nestlé in the UK, Japan and SE Asia. He has over 22 years market entry and growth acceleration across Asia-Pacific with large food, beverage and OTC multinationals plus entrepreneurial start-ups. Rupert has extensive experience in insights, marketing strategy, innovation and capability development in the consumer products and lifestyle industries in both highly developed and developing markets.
Professor Philip Sugai is the author of Building Value through Marketing; a step-by-step guide from Routledge (2021).
Philip began his career as an entrepreneur by founding a non-profit company which restored and operated the Greenwich Odeum theater in East Greenwich Rhode Island that continues to operate today. After getting his MBA at NYU’s Stern School of Business, he worked for American Express in their Interactive Services Group before moving to the entertainment database provider Muze, Inc. (now part of Rovi) where he served as the Director of marketing, managing the company’s entire marketing team and product portfolio. He then moved to Lightningcast Inc as representative director of their Japan office and APAC director of business development.
In 2003 he joined the full-time faculty at the International University of Japan in Niigata and served as both Associate Dean and Dean of the business school until 2013, when he joined Doshisha University’s Graduate School of Business and where he continues to work today.
Philip is the author of multiple case studies available through Harvard Business School publishing on Suntory whisky, Nestle’s KITKAT in Japan, 330-year old Nishijin weaving company Hosoo, Australia’s AGL and vocaloid pop star, Hatsune Miku. He is also the author of two books including The Six immutable Laws of Mobile Business published by John Wiley & Sons in 2011, and Building Value through Marketing, a step by step guide published by Routledge in September 2020.
